Hedgerow

Hedgerow privacy policy

Effective 12 October 2026. Hedgerow is a desktop organizer for Windows made by Cairnea LLC, Ohio, USA. In short: your zones, files and settings stay on your PC. Hedgerow has no account, analytics or telemetry, and Hedgerow itself goes online only to check for updates, and only if you allow it. When you uninstall it, you can choose to tell us why in a short survey.

What stays on your PC

Your zones, rules, snapshots, settings, Hedgerow's log and any update you download are stored on your PC in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Hedgerow. Hedgerow reads your desktop and the folders you choose to show, so it can arrange their icons. None of this leaves your PC unless you send it to us.

The update check

Hedgerow asks before it checks for updates. If you agree, it requests one small file from downloads.cairnea.com once a day, and when you choose Check now, to see whether a new version is available. The request carries the Hedgerow version and, like any web request, your IP address. It carries no account, no identifier, no cookies, and nothing about your files or desktop. If you choose to update, the new installer is downloaded from the same place, and its size, checksum and Cairnea LLC signature are checked before it runs. You can turn the check off at any time in Hedgerow's Settings, and if you say no, Hedgerow never makes the request.

downloads.cairnea.com also serves Hedgerow's installer, including when you install Hedgerow from the Microsoft Store or with winget. It is served by Cloudflare, which keeps standard request logs (such as IP address, time and the file requested) under its own privacy policy. We do not use those logs to identify anyone. Microsoft's privacy statement covers the Store and winget themselves.

Nothing else

Hedgerow has no account, no advertising, no analytics and no telemetry. It does not send crash reports. Links in Hedgerow's Help open cairnea.com pages in your browser only when you choose them. The uninstall survey opens only if you choose it.

When you uninstall

When you remove Hedgerow, the uninstaller asks whether you'd tell us why. If you choose Yes, it opens a short survey in your browser; if you choose No, or remove Hedgerow silently, nothing opens and nothing is sent. The survey is a Google Form, reached through a cairnea.com link that passes on only your Hedgerow version. It asks for your main reason and, if you like, a comment. It does not ask you to sign in or collect your email address, and it sends nothing about your files or desktop. Google hosts the form and stores the answers for us under its own privacy policy. We read them only to improve Hedgerow. If you'd like a reply, email support@cairnea.com.

This website

cairnea.com sets no cookies, runs no scripts and loads nothing from other sites. Our web server and our host, Railway, keep standard request logs (such as IP address, time, the page requested and the browser's name) to run and protect the site. We do not use them to identify anyone.

Emails to support

If you email support@cairnea.com, we use your message, your address and anything you attach only to answer you. If you attach Hedgerow's log, it includes the names and locations of files and folders Hedgerow has worked with, which often include your Windows user name. Email is handled by Google Workspace.

Removing your data

Uninstall Hedgerow from Windows Settings, under Apps, Installed apps. It asks whether to remove your zones and settings too; choose Yes to delete them, or delete %LOCALAPPDATA%\Hedgerow yourself. Windows also keeps a few entries for Hedgerow, such as its Start menu shortcut, its desktop menu and its start-at-sign-in setting. They say where Hedgerow is installed and nothing about you, and uninstalling removes them. If you turned Hedgerow's start-up off in Task Manager, Windows keeps that choice. Apart from support emails and the request logs described above, we hold nothing about you. To have support emails deleted, ask us.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, we will update this page and its date. Questions: support@cairnea.com.
