Working with several zones

Hedgerow can move, space and lay out several zones together. Moving together and Distribute use only grid zones; templates also place zones not yet on the grid.

Selecting zones

Ctrl-click a zone's title bar to add it to the selection or take it out. Selected zones get an outline. On the Zones page, which shares the selection, Ctrl-click or Shift-click rows. Press Esc in a zone, or click the desktop, to clear the selection.

Moving together

Drag a selected zone and the selected zones on that monitor move or resize with it, by whole cells. Shared edges move both zones, and zones in the way move aside. A move that would push a zone off screen stops. Ctrl+arrow and Alt+arrow work alike, by one cell.

Hold Shift to move only the dragged zone, or Alt to place it freely.

To turn off linked edges and moving aside, clear Move neighbouring zones while I drag under Arranging on the Settings page. Selected zones still move together.

Distribute and Make equal

Select three or more grid zones on one monitor, then choose Distribute on the Zones page, or a selected title bar's menu. Use Distribute horizontally, Distribute vertically, Make equal widths or Make equal heights. The first and last zones stay put. If an unselected zone is in the way, nothing moves. Undo on the Zones page reverses it.

Templates

Choose Templates on the Zones page or in the tray menu. Built-in layouts are Two columns, Three columns, Grid 2 × 2, Grid 3 × 2 and Sidebar and main. A template applies to the selected zones or, with nothing selected, to every zone on a monitor. With several monitors, choose one. Zones go in reading order, Desktop first. Extra zones fill free space, then share slots. Undo reverses it.

To keep a layout, choose Save arrangement as template…. It saves the shapes of the selected grid zones, or all those on that monitor. Choose Delete saved template to remove one.
